Smyrna pattern (smirjanska šara) is a very popular Pirot kilim pattern. The horizontal division of kilim surface through the use of rectangular boxes (kuveri) is characteristic for this pattern. The boxes contain rows of rhomboid ornaments, with bibice ornaments inside the shape and hooks on the outer borders. The borders of the boxes are decorated with octopus (oktapod) ornament, flanked with feathers. Between the boxes runs a frieze composed of glasses (očila) motif. A wide border (ploča) contains alternately turtle (kornjača) and čurlinjak ornaments. The colours used are: red, white, blue, green, brown and orange.
